5 Ways to “Green” your Wedding Centerpieces

by Amy C on March 9, 2011

Choosing eco-décor for your reception tables is not only green, but a great option for couples on a budget.  Couples inspired by their love of nature can incorporate natural beauty into their wedding theme and decor.

#1: Keep it Alive

Pick seasonal live plants as centerpieces that your guests can bring home, care for, enjoy, and even eat!  Try using baby herb plants at each place setting as name cards.  Incorporate your love of nature with tables named for state flowers or birds instead of numbers.

#2:  Edible Art

Display a bowl of whole fruits such as pomegranates and pears, or an arrangement of fresh fruits or veggies that can be eaten as part of the meal or taken home for your guests to enjoy later!  Consumables won’t go to waste… especially on your big day!

#3:  Found Objects

Find a collection of glassware at a local thrift store, garage sale, or auction.  Mason Jars are easy to come by and can be filled with flowers, snacks, or votive candles!  Match your theme by adding ribbon and tie on guest chairs or hang for mood lighting.

#4:  The Gift of Re-Gifting

Give your guests a gift they can take home and not only enjoy, but re-use! Make your own centerpieces using home-grown or organic flowers.  Don’t fret, with the Blossom Crown, the flowers practically arrange themselves. This unique gift is hand-woven, and assembled in the USA by stay-at-home moms. Guests will be able to re-use at home with their own garden delights!

#5:  Reflections of You

DIY centerpieces can include home-grown flowers, vegetables, or even fruits depending on where you live!  Don’t forget your favorite pastime or hobby: macrame, knitting and recyclables can keep costs down and your reception eco-friendly.  Be creative!
